Listen to this personal message from Steven Lulich about Estate Planning
Estate Planning is the organization and the process to transfer assets in the event of a death. It ensures the beneficiaries of the estate will receive the maximum amount of wealth that is possible to receive. An estate planning has many components: Wills, Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Health-Care Proxies, and Trusts.
Everyone needs a willThis is a document that explains to your family where you want your assets to go. After all, they are your assets, and you should decide this! In the event that you do not have a will, and you do pass away, this will leave many legal problems for your loved ones. They will inherit many unforeseen costs.
“Trusts” provide a way for you to put conditions on your assets. Trusts make the legal process much easier for distribution of assets and even reducing taxes once you pass away.
The first step to Estate Planning is determining what is in your estate. What assets do you have? Assets include savings, investments, various policies (an example is an Insurance policy), properties, shares in business, etc.
The next step is to determine who do you want to receive your assets? You need to decide if you want to leave your assets to someone in your family or an organization. You need to make the decision of who you want your legacy left to!
The next question you must consider is if you were ever hindered mentally or physically, who do you want to handle your financials and who do you want to make medical decisions for you?
